Robert Russell, MDHip & Knee Surgeon

Areas of Interest:

Hip & Knee Replacement Surgery, Direct anterior approach for total hip replacement, Treatment of painful hip and knee replacements, Revision surgery for failed or problematic hip and knee replacements, Fractures near the hip and knee, Infections of hip and knee replacements, Sport related hip and knee injuries, Arthroscopic surgery, Minimally invasive surgery

Dr. Russell is a native Texan. He grew up in Dallas and graduated from Plano West Senior High. Dr. Russell attended undergraduate at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York where he played on the Division I men’s soccer team. He graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering. He went on to complete his medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, where he was elected a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society.

Dr. Russell completed his residency training in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Hospital in Dallas. During his time at UT Southwestern, Dr. Russell published multiple peer-reviewed journal articles, and gave presentations at national and international conferences. He elected to pursue an additional year of sub-specialty training specific to Hip and Knee Reconstruction at the OrthoCarolina Hip and Knee Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

At OrthoCarolina, Dr. Russell was able to learn the muscle-sparing, direct anterior approach to total hip arthroplasty from the nation’s experts in this surgery. He trained in minimally invasive techniques in joint replacement. He also focused on complex total hip and total knee replacements including performing these surgeries in patients with large deformities and bone loss, infections, fractures near implants, and failed prior joint replacements. After completing his fellowship training in hip and knee reconstruction, he joined the W.B. Carrell Clinic™ back in his hometown of Dallas, Texas.
